Performance in the last quarter has been impacted by an increase in new Universal Credit claims. New Universal Credit claimants have a calendar month’s wait before their first award of housing costs and will continue to be paid monthly in arrears whilst they remain in receipt of this benefit. A second factor is the timing of the rent free weeks on the 48 and 50 week rent cycles resulting in tenants who opt to pay over equal monthly instalments accruing arrears before their payments sync with the weekly rent debits.
